AN INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Ela Amarie, a psychologist who is trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) will introduce us to the meditation techniques with a focus on their various benefits for cancer patients.
MBSR is widely recognized in the Western world as an efficient technique which helps cope with unhealthy stress. Anxiety and fear associated with cancer and other acute and chronic illnesses are better handled, as well as pain and depression, through attention to our breathing and a focus on the present moment.
The technique was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine Emeritus at the University of Massachusets Medical School. Derived from Buddhist meditation, MBSR is particularly well adapted to our western culture and way of life.
Ela’s background includes 13 years of professional experience in the Human
Resources field. In the last couple of years she developed an interest in learning
about the mind, the brain, and the practical applications of neuroscience. It is a
new and fascinating interdisciplinary field encompassing scientific research and
applications for enhancing human well-being.
The presentation will be made in English and will last about 30 minutes. Following the presentation there will be practical exercises and an informal Q & A session. Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can breathe easily.
